Enjoy Workum and Friesland!

Workum, or Warkum as the Frisians say, is one of the ‘eleven cities’ in Friesland and, due to its favorable location, is an ideal place to explore what Friesland has to offer. Workum has its own beach. Because it is a wide sandy beach that gradually slopes into the IJsselmeer, it is very child-friendly and a perfect place to enjoy a day in the sun and the IJsselmeer. Kitesurfing, windsurfing, and stand-up paddleboarding are also popular activities in the area.

But also for culture lovers there is much to see and do in Workum and the immediate vicinity. In Workum itself, don't forget to visit the Jopie Huisman museum. The museum is dedicated to the work and philosophy of the Frisian artist Jopie Huisman (1922 - 2000). He was a gifted painter, draughtsman and watercolourist, a natural talent and a nature lover.

In the Museum 'Warkums Erfskip', in the former weigh house, in the middle of Workum, you can experience the history of Workum. There are also small art galleries, a traditional blacksmith's shop and the more than 300 year old, still operational, shipyard De Hoop.

In short: there is plenty to do in Workum: (water) sports, restaurants, terraces, shops, museums, galleries, events. Let yourself be surprised by this versatile, charming, vibrant ‘eleven-city’ city!
